When James Gunn took over the DC Studios, fans were ecstatic as they believed that the acclaimed director would finally give Henry Cavill his much-deserved screentime as Superman in Superman: Legacy. But that was not the case, as Gunn became an eyesore when he decided to replace Cavill with David Corenswet to be the new Superman in his rebooted DCU. As a result, the DC fans are not excited about watching David Corenswet in his new role, thanks to his uncanny similarity to Cavill.
And it looks like the problems do not come to an end for James Gunn as his upcoming film, Superman: Legacy might land itself in some controversy for taking a page out of RDJ’s Iron Man. It is rumored that the film would majorly showcase a conflict in the Middle East, which can be negatively interpreted by the masses.
James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy Already Surrounds Itself With Controversy
Despite the fact that James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy is far away from release, the film has found itself in deep waters as it has already been entangled in some controversy when a scooper gave some insider news. A reliable insider, MyTimeToShineHello recently tweeted on X how the upcoming Superman project would be partly based on a conflict in the Middle East.

The news attracted mixed responses from the DC fans, as some of them did not find the idea of showcasing conflict in the Middle East to be problematic at all because Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man also featured a couple of scenes where it showcased conflict in Afghanistan. However, a fan expressed their opinion, stating how it could be a bad move for Gunn.
Oh no… that sounds like a bad move

Another fan tweets how they hope the Co-Ceo has the awareness to not entangle themselves in another controversy.
this is horrible timing. I hope James Gunn has the awareness to change it before they start filming. Cuz DC cannot afford another controversy

Fans have shared their opinion on how showcasing conflict in the Middle East can be a good or a bad thing. However, there are no official announcements from the DC Studios or James Gunn himself. Hence, it would be wise for fans to not showcase any hate towards the much-anticipated project.
Jacob Elordi Refused To Be James Gunn’s New Superman
During an exclusive interview with GQ, Jacob Elordi discussed in meticulous detail his widely adored and critically acclaimed film, Priscilla. The actor was also asked about a role that he was asked to be a part of and rejected. Elordi answered he rejected the role of Superman in James Gunn’s upcoming film, Superman: Legacy.
“Well, they asked me to read for Superman,” Elordi said. “That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.”
The role of Superman is as good as it gets because it not only gives a massive career boost but also an iconic role to add to their acting career. However, the actor stated that such projects are too much for him to handle so he will not play the character to tarnish its reputation.
Superman: Legacy is expected to hit the theatres on 11 July 2025.
