Man Utd fans are convinced Bruno Fernandes has already ‘taken over’ from Erik ten Hag
Ten Hag is under pressure after United lost 3-0 to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup
Fernandes came off the bench at Old Trafford as United crashed to a 3-0 defeat.
The Red Devils were left chasing shadows all over the pitch by a second-string Toon side.
It means United are now enduring their worst start to a campaign in 61 years.
The pressure on Ten Hag is growing too, with the Dutchman second-favourite in the league to next receive the sack.
And it all proved too much for United skipper Fernandes as he watched his teammates fall apart on the field.
Standing on the sideline, the Portugal star engaged in a warm-up while absorbing all the action.
But Fernandes was soon barking commands at United players, assuming the role of manager.
The midfield player was spotted furiously waving his arms in an attempt to control the play.
Additionally, Red Devils supporters believe Fernandes is already trying to take Ten Hag’s place on the touchline.
One said: “He’s taken over from Ten Hag.”
Another declared: “He’s the only player who talks, I can see why they gave him the armband.”
One noted: “Sunday league players have a better mentality than this squad.”
Another added: “Pushing them to do what?”
Fernandes’ action came after Roy Keane launched a blistering attack against him following the 3-0 derby defeat to Man City.
Calling for Fernandes to be stripped of the United captaincy, Keane raged: “After today and having watched him again I would definitely take the captaincy off him. 100 per cent.
“I know it’s a big decision, obviously he changed the captaincy with [Harry] Maguire, but Fernandes is not captain material.”I think he’s a talented player no doubt about it.
“But what I saw from him today; his whinging, his moaning, he’s throwing his arms up in the air constantly, it really isn’t acceptable.
“And what we saw today, I would take it off him.
“Cause we’re talking about making changes, you have to start somewhere whether it’s board level, managers, I would start with that because the manager is capable of doing that and holding his hands up and saying ‘listen I got it wrong’.
“In terms of captain material, he’s the opposite to what I would want in a captain.”
