John Cena Began Working out When He Was 13
Remarkably, John Cena—a star with an exaggerated physical presence and persona—admitted that he was bullied in the past, and that experience helped to mold the man he is today. He once shared with PEOPLE:
“My passion for strength was out of self-defense. I used to get picked on a lot because I was different in the way I dressed and expressed myself. As you’re an adolescent, social cliques form and I didn’t fall into any one of those. So I got tired of getting beaten up and I asked my dad for a weight set and he got me one at 13. I started working out and I haven’t stopped since.”
Strength and fitness training are the foundation of Cena’s current career and his introduction to the WWE. His love for it drove him to earn a degree in exercise physiology and body movement from Springfield College in Western Massachusetts. To quote him:
“[After college] I headed out to Los Angeles not because of the entertainment allure, but because that’s where the hub of fitness equipment, fitness manufacturing, fitness distribution, everything that applied to my degree was there.”
In addition to inspiring us, Cena’s incredible strength is a real source of motivation for anyone hoping to surpass their physical limitations. Millions of fans all over the world are inspired by his legendary persona to strive harder, push their boundaries, and become the best versions of themselves.
On the acting front, we recently saw him reprise his role as Jakob Toretto in Fast X, which is streaming on Peacock Premium.
