Henry Cavill is well known for his tenure as Superman in the DCU. But his career has been marred with some misfortunes that have led to many exciting opportunities being stalled or canceled. His tenure as the son of Krypton was tumultuous and ended with a false promise. His role as the Witcher also suffered from a similar condition as he left the project due to creative differences.
Cavill was close to playing James Bond along with Daniel Craig way back then, but the role ultimately went to Craig. Now, with Craig retired from the role, the next favorite candidate to carry on the franchise is Cavill. He has also expressed his interest in the role many times.
Henry Cavill Promises to Do Justice If He’s Ever Cast As James Bond
Henry Cavill was considered to be in the running for James Bond along with Daniel Craig in the early 2000s. The role ultimately went to Craig while Cavill went on to do other things of his own. But at the time, he was very close to getting the part but was let go because he was too young.
With Craig now retired from the role, Cavill is now everyone’s favorite pick to lead the next reincarnation of the character. He has talked about how his Bond will be unique from Craig’s portrayal and his hopes of doing justice to the role if he was ever cast. He said, (via IMDB)
“Bond would be wonderful to play one day. I wouldn’t play the same kind of character as Daniel Craig, but hopefully, I can do something that will do justice to the legacy. Barbara or Mike [the producers], if you’re reading this, give me a call.”
Cavill has proved himself capable of portraying a suave and charismatic spy with roles in films like The Man from U.N.C.L.E. He will be an exciting pick and there is no doubt that he will bring on a unique spin on the character with his unique mannerisms and charisma.
Henry Cavill Would Be an Excellent Bond According To Franchise Director
Martin Campbell directed two of the most celebrated Bond films including GoldenEye and Casino Royale. The latter was Daniel’s Craig debut as Bond. It is no secret that Cavill and Craig were in the running for the role at the time. Now Campbell has reflected on how Cavill would be an excellent Bond.
He also revealed that Cavill lost out on the role at the time because he was too young for the part. Campbell told the Daily Express,
“He looked great in the audition. His acting was tremendous. And look, if Daniel didn’t exist Henry would have made an excellent Bond. He looked terrific, he was in great physical shape… very handsome, very chiseled. He just looked a little young at that time back then.”
The producers of the franchise recently said that it will be quite a while before the next Bond to materialize. Whether Cavill gets selected for the part or not, fans hope that the next Bond does justice to the legacy left behind by Craig.
