Following Daniel Craig’s final appearance as James Bond in No Time To Die, the hunt is on for the next actor who will slip into the shoes of the suave 007 agent. Among the various choices that are floating around, Henry Cavill’s name is one that is creating a lot of buzz. Following his ousting from DC as Superman, fans of Cavill are eager to see the British star take on a role that he seems tailor-made for.
Barbie director Greta Gerwig though, could incur the wrath of Henry Cavill fans for her suggestion on who could play James Bond next. Gerwig, in an interview, mentioned Barbie actor Kingsley Ben-Adir as an ideal choice to play the stylish spy, owing to his small but significant role in her film, and the impact he made in his short screen time.
Henry Cavill Fans Could Object To Greta Gerwig’s James Bond Choice
While the next James Bond is yet to be decided, filmmaker Greta Gerwig stuck her neck out to state her preference regarding who should play the character. Amid lots of talk about the possibilities of Henry Cavill taking on the responsibility, the Lady Bird director suggested the name of Kingsley Ben-Adir, who starred in Barbie as Basketball Ken.
Though Ben-Adir only played a small part in the film, his body language and charisma on screen while performing a scene that had just two words, ‘got it’, completely floored Gerwig. In a conversation with Variety for the Awards Circuit Podcast, the 40-year-old director explained her reaction to his portrayal.
“Everybody’s jaws dropped… I was like, get this footage to whoever is making James Bond immediately,”
With Henry Cavill reportedly still on James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli’s radar, it remains to be seen if Greta Gerwig’s opinion on Ben-Adir, will make an impact on the final decision.
Henry Cavill Taps Into His Inner Spy With Argylle
Whether Henry Cavill ultimately lands the role of James Bond or not, the British star got to work on his spy instincts in Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle, which is due to release next year. The film will give Cavill the opportunity to be a Bond-style secret agent, while also incorporating nuances of other famous characters on screen. In an interview with Screen Rant, Vaughn explained the brief that he gave to The Witcher star.
“I said to Henry, Argylle is a mixture of Bond, Ivan Drago, because of Rocky 4, and just a bit of Superman spice.”
The director was all praise for Cavill’s deep understanding of his vision and went on to state that the former DC star was one of the most intelligent and nicest actors he had met.
