One of the most renowned actors of this generation, Henry Cavill has portrayed some of the most impressive roles that have gained him immense fans. The actor has several iconic roles that fans know and love him for. From portraying the role of August Walker to the role of Sherlock Holmes, he is not limited to one genre of films. However, his most iconic role would be that of Superman in the DCEU, which was one of his first high-profile roles.
For many people, Henry Cavill is the perfect representation of The Last Son of Krypton. However, Joe Manganiello was once quite close to portraying Cavill’s iconic role in the DC Studios as he had a meeting with Zack Snyder before things took a sour turn with Warner Bros.
Joe Manganiello Nearly Soared as Superman in Man of Steel
While talking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast via Comicbook, Joe Manganiello discussed how he came extremely close to portraying the role of The Last Son of Krypton, as he would often have meetings with the creator of the SnyderVerse, Zack Snyder. Things were going smoothly until Warner Bros. asked HBO for the actor’s measurements as they wanted to make his suit.
“I met with Zack. I had an hour-and-a-half-long meeting with Zack, which is what was causing all the trouble. I went ahead and met with casting, and they all brought me over to meet Zack. I met the producers, and I met everybody — everybody involved.”
“Then finally sat down with Zack for an hour and a half and had a big conversation about the character and where it was going, et cetera. Then they called the True Blood costume shop for my measurements to build my suit, and that’s what caused — that’s when it stopped.”
Both parties tried to agree but in the end, they could not agree as HBO said no. The One Tree Hill actor could not believe the news as things went from excellent to awful in no time. The actor was distraught by the whole incident stating “I’m a sensitive guy. I was rocked by the whole thing.”
While Joe Manganiello was eventually cast as Slade Wilson/ Deathstroke in the DC Extended Universe, Henry Cavill’s interest in portraying the role of Sherlock Holmes after his portrayal of the superhero character was immensely appreciated in the Enola Holmes franchise.
Henry Cavill Talks About The Possibility of a Sherlock-led Spin-off
During a conversation with The Wrap, Henry Cavill talks about the future of the iconic detective regarding his widespread popularity in the franchise. The actor shared that had often speculated on the possibility of a Sherlock-led spin-off, or even a third Enola Holmes film.
“There’s always whisperings of these sort of things, but nothing is ever official until you enter the first day of shooting, and even then until you finish shooting and even then it has to come out. Right now that’s a that’s all always brings but I don’t know of anything official just yet.”
Henry Cavill seemed to be quite optimistic about a third Enola Holmes film, but he adds how the presence of Enola Holmes has changed the scene, even his relationship with John Watson. Hence, he feels that his version of Sherlock Holmes would be quite different from others.
“This universe is very much Enola’s, so she’ll always be involved. I think it’s important to make that connection between the two characters.”
Since both characters are equally important, as they share a close relationship in these two films, and if a Sherlock Holmes-led spin-off ever takes place in the future this is how it would look like.
